Have Steel Cooling Tanks In Your Warehouse? Here Are Four Materials You Might Use For Tank Coatings

You might have noticed the coating on the steel cooling tanks in your industrial warehouse and not paid them much attention. What you may not realize is that coatings are important, as they have a mild cooling effect and help the steel tanks to be less likely to corrode. If the coating on your tanks is starting to wear away, it's smart to have the coating reapplied. Here are four materials you might choose for the job.

Polyurethane

This substance is commonly used to coat steel tanks because it is generally affordable and suitable for many purposes. It is important, however, that you realize that this substance is best used in environments where the air is dry; you might notice that the coating bubbles if the amount of humidity in your warehouse is too high, which might mean you have to try another material. Polyurethane will also need to be powerwashed before touching up any rust spots, so it's important to consider what kind of maintenance schedule you may have to put in place if you use this kind of coating.

Polyurea

Polyurea is similar to the first material discussed in this article. However, it tends to be thicker and more suitable for environments that are humid. If you found that polyurethane was not appropriate, this substance might be a better choice. What you may also decide is to mix the two substances to make a more cost-effective coating that will work for larger surface areas.

Fluorourethane

This kind of coating is usually more expensive than other options but can be counted on to last longer. If you have multiple tanks that must be coated, this substance may work best for you because you won't have to worry that you're going to have to reapply coatings on multiple tanks over and over again. This coating type also fades less quickly than polyurea and polyurethane.

Polysiloxane

Polysiloxane is another long-lasting material that you can use for your steel tanks. More affordable than fluorourethane, this substance works especially well if your tanks have some outside visibility and you want to showcase the color of the coating; polysiloxane coatings are generally very glossy and vibrant.

With all these different kinds of coatings, you can select an appropriate substance to ensure that your tanks are coated and protected from corrosion.
